Who Should Attend

Designed for providers working with youth and/or adults who want to ensure their assessment and treatment of suicidal clients is conducted through a trauma-informed lens.

What You'll Learn

Using a trauma-informed approach, this course covers:

  • Collaborating effectively with clients who are suicidal
  • Understanding current suicide terms, statistics, and trends
  • Collecting accurate assessment information, including risk factors, protective factors, warning signs, and trauma exposure
  • Formulating and documenting suicide risk
  • Developing trauma-informed treatment and service plans, including safety planning and lethal means restriction
  • Managing ongoing care for at-risk clients
  • Navigating legal and ethical considerations in suicide care

Interactive Learning

You'll work with partners and small groups to apply concepts through case vignettes and facilitated discussions, ensuring you leave with practical skills you can immediately use in your practice.

Resources Included

Participants receive comprehensive handouts and resources from the Crisis Text Line and similar organizations that can be shared directly with clients and families.

Evidence-Based Foundation

This course follows recommended competencies from the Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk curriculum (American Association of Suicidology and Suicide Prevention Resource Center) and integrates SAMHSA's Trauma-Informed Care principles. Content draws from current research and best practices from leading organizations including SAMHSA, AAS, SPRC, AFSP, NIMH, SPTS, CDC, The Trevor Project, and the Center for Prevention and Research.

Continuing Education

The 6-hour Trauma-Informed Suicide Assessment, Treatment, and Management: A Trauma Informed Approach course meets the requirements of KRS 210.366 for the following licensed qualified mental health providers in the state of Kentucky. 

  • Social Workers
  • Psychologists
  • Licensed Professional Counselors
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Counselors (application under review)

Training Format & Requirements

This is a live, interactive training delivered via Zoom. To ensure an engaging learning environment and meet licensure documentation requirements, participants must:

  • Keep cameras on for the entire duration of the training
  • Attend the full 6-hour session

Please note: Partial credit cannot be awarded for this course. Full attendance is required to receive your certificate of completion.

Refund Policy

To receive a refund, a cancellation request must be made at least 21 days before training is scheduled to begin. Cancellation requests received less than 21 days before training begins will result in training credit that must be used on another CTAC training offering within one year. All refunds will be issued on the original payment method. Make a cancellation request.
