The STS-ISC will develop and test workforce development and protection interventions for use at NCTSN centers and other organizations that serve those with traumatic stress conditions throughout the country.

This  will be accomplished via the following activities:

  • Implement workforce development and protection initiatives to create secondary traumatic stress informed organizations by developing an organizational change package, data-driven change process, and test interventions designed to create a more STS informed workplace.
  • Increase supervisors’ abilities to serve as secondary traumatic stress change agents and boundary spanners between management and the front-line workforce by developing assessment tools and interventions to improve supervisory competency to do this work
  • Provide professionals with the knowledge and practice skills needed to manage indirect trauma exposures using evidence-informed tools and interventions. Adapt and test the effectiveness of interventions to address secondary traumatic stress.
  • Provide resource parents with the practice skills needed to manage indirect trauma exposures using evidence-informed tools and interventions.  Conduct a study comparing the effectiveness of the prevention and intervention strategy.

Guiding this work will be a National STS-ISC Advisory Board

This board will meet bi-annually using a virtual meeting platform, and advise project personnel on content, accessibility, integration, implementation and sustainability. Advisory board members will review and provide feedback on the development of the change package, STS Competency training package, and intervention adaptations, and assist with achieving cultural sensitivity of all materials and deliverables.
