Welcome to the newly released training module, “Trauma, Stress and Caregiver Well-Being. This module was designed for those who would like to deliver a training for resource parents on the topic of secondary traumatic stress and caregiver well-being.  It contains general information on trauma with a specific focus on caregiver stress including how hearing about the traumatic experiences and seeing the aftereffects of trauma on children can impact caregivers.  It provides concrete strategies to help address these impacts and to support well-being for caregivers.

A second version of this training module was created as an update to Module #8 of the existing National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma – A Workshop for Resource Parents.

Get started by watching the video below!

The learning objectives for both versions are to help resource parents:

  • Identify sources of stress for themselves
  • Understand what secondary traumatic stress is and how it might impact them
  • Explore their window of tolerance and how to widen and stay within it to address stress
  • Develop a personalized “stress buster” action plan to address secondary trauma

By helping resource parents identify how their work is impacting them and how they can mitigate the impacts, it will allow them to be more present and effective in their work with the children in their care.
