Project AWARE was created with the purpose of advancing wellness and resilience education in Kentucky by increasing awareness of and responsiveness to mental health issues in students. Activities include training educators and school personnel, parents, and others working with school-age youth in several areas of mental health commonly impacting students. The UK Center on Trauma and Children developed The Trauma Informed Practices for Educators & School Personnel Learning Collaboratives to allow schools and districts to improve understanding of the impact of trauma on students and to assist them in developing appropriate responses to students needs to ultimately enhance academic, social, emotional and physical outcomes for students. Project AWARE is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Agency through a grant to the Kentucky Department of Education and the University of Kentucky Center on Trauma and Children.
